Dan Shuman

Dan Shuman

I had the opportunity to work closely with Roger Barnhart for over 2 years at Ashland Health Center. Roger demonstrates a keen understanding of the workings of healthcare, in particular rural health and the integration of health systems. He joined our organization at at time when our finances were in trouble after recent Medicare cuts and was able to produce over $700,000 in savings and elimination of operational costs. This effectively saved the community from further increases in health district taxes that would have been needed to off set these losses.

Additionally, Roger was the catalyst in taking the idea of a much needed new health center from discussion through a vibrant community discourse and eventually on to public vote. The bond issue for the hospital ended up passing by a remarkable 70/30 ratio in favor.

Our financial stabilization and the passage of the bond for the hospital would not have happened without Roger and were both accomplished in less than 2 years.

Rogers demonstrates not only the training and know-how to understand how to build and improve health system but also the courage and clarity to get the job done. — Dan Shuman, Medical Director & Family Physician at Back2Back Ministries, worked with Roger Barnhart as Medical Director at Ashland Health Center.

Roger was one of the easiest hiring decisions I ever made because he came to the job with extraordinary talent. But what I didn't know when we hired him at Children's Mercy was that he possessed so much more than the technical skills needed as a writer, designer and editor. Roger is a driven individual, always questioning, always yearning for more information, better approaches, better outcomes. He is not afraid to push back if he believes strongly enough about something and he will debate you and challenge you and, before you even realize it, he will make you better, too. His moral compass guides him in a positive direction. He does not get stuck in the "way things have always been done" and is always looking for the right tools, the right people and the right answers. — Children’s Mercy Hospital, Roger Barnhart reported to Thomas McCormally when he served as Community Relations Director.

Roger Barnhart is an extremely effective leader in the healthcare industry. I have personally watched Roger take on the most challenging and sometimes unwinnable leadership positions, and set the organization on a path for success. For an organization searching for an innovative, effective leader who understands the new healthcare landscape, I would start with a winning quarterback, "Roger Barnhart." — Mark Lovelace, MA, MHA, Corporate Director of Sales and Marketing at National Hospice Management, Inc.

I have known Roger Barnhart since 2005 when I was the President of the Children's Mercy Hospital Family Advisory Board and he helped us promote the board to employees.

I was subsequently hired as Family Centered Care Coordinator, (a program to support families of children with chronic illnesses or frequent hospitalizations) and again had the chance to work with him. As such, I have known him in two different capacities.

Much of what we achieved could not have been done without Roger's deliberate approach to our marketing. I found him to be a careful listener, asking appropriate - if tough - questions. He could easily sift through issues and extract the important elements, and skillfully write those into comprehensible programs. I appreciated his vision for how ideas could best translate to the majority. I enjoyed his dedication as an employee who was particularly sensitive to the family perspective; and, when he didn't understand, was comfortable in delicately asking me to explain further. I thought he had a gentle manner and a fun sense of humor which made him an affable co-worker.

I have seen Roger work diligently to improve himself as he works to improve the health care environment. I believe his dedication is sincere and I expect he will do well in any of a number of capacities. I wish him the best in any endeavor. — Ginnie Miller, Independent Health, Wellness and Fitness Professional

Roger has been a wonderful addition to our team during his administrative fellowship at Sunshine Home Health Care. Roger has provided assistance in analyzing our overall operations which included: patient care protocols, reimbursement, business development, strategic planning, and establishing collaborations with other health care professionals.
